Aspire Kids Sports Center hosted the USAG Western Nationals Championship this past weekend in Chandler, AZ. Over 700 male gymnasts competed in levels 7, 8 and 9 and Elian Tapia, from Aspire Kids Sports Center, won the Level 9 All Around Gold in his age division. He also won gold in Floor (13.5) and Vault (13.1) along with Bronze in Rings and Pommel Horse.
Elian Tapia, age 14, has been training with coaches Brian Kern and Rob Survick since October 2021 when he joined the Jr. Sun Devils as a level 8 gymnast. “He’s a testament to hard work, dedication, and trusting the plan/process. He was able to climb in the standings at each level of competition from state, to regionals, to nationals, and got better at every level. He is a competitor.” Co-Head Coach Rob Survick.
“Elian is the epitome of a hard-worker and competitor. When he sets a goal, there is nothing that will distract him from the plan we set for him to achieve his goals. It’s been amazing to watch his growth and success continue to climb at every step of the process and every level. I cannot wait to see what the future has in store for him.” Co-Head Coach Brian Kern.
Elian is a member of the Pascua Yaqui Tribe and is preparing to enter high school at Millennium High School in Goodyear next year. He will be competing as a level 9 gymnast next season.
