A new school experience for K-12 students.
Every parent or guardian wants their child to thrive in school. What if the current school is not a good fit? Families in Pennsylvania have several K-12 options, with cyber charter schools growing in popularity for a wide range of students. Today, more than 60,000 students attend a public cyber charter school in the Commonwealth. Below are a few reasons why students value being able to learn a little differently at PA Cyber.
Personalized learning. They report the ability to work ahead in some classes and take more time in others. Students can graduate early once they earn the required number of credits. Morgana Costanzo graduated from PA Cyber in 2020 and is now a senior at Penn State University. “Being able to learn at my own pace actually allowed me to accelerate more than I would’ve in a brick-and-mortar school,” she said.
Quality education. Zayn Farooq said he chose to enroll at PA Cyber to pursue a higher quality of education compared to other middle school options in his locale. Zayn’s childhood friend, Elia Mikhail, followed him to the same school for the same reason. They both went on to earn full college scholarships—Zayn at Robert Morris University and Elia at Princeton University.
- Due to bullying, some students don’t find their current school environment conducive to learning. Rhiannon Costanzo and her siblings enrolled in a cyber charter school for this reason. Classmates and even teachers mocked Rhiannon for her speech delay. Once at PA Cyber, she made progress with a new speech therapist. She is studying biology at Penn State University after graduating from high school one year early with a 4.0 GPA. Her mother said, “To watch her come into her own now and be so outgoing and confident is almost surreal.”
- Students at PA Cyber often highlight flexibility as one of the main benefits. Whether they take live or asynchronous classes, they have extra time to commit to family, work, time-intensive extracurricular activities, and more. Due to the online nature of the schools, they can serve military and rural families who otherwise face barriers due to scheduling and geography.
