HISTORY:
On August 3, 1987, cable television pioneer Bill Daniels, founded Young Americans Bank. More than 3,000 savings accounts for kids were opened in the first five months. Today, there are more than 15,000 savings accounts at the bank, in addition to a variety of nonprofit programs that complement the bank’s financial mission. In all, more than 50,000 young people participate in Young Americans’ programs every year with a total of more than 700,000 youth reached in 35 years.
Housed within Young Americans Center for Financial Education, Young Americans Bank is the only fully operational, FDIC insured, real bank in the world specifically for young people age 21 and under. This unique institution shares the same educational mission as the Center – teaching children to be financially responsible through hands-on experience.
Celebrating 35 years in 2022, Young Americans has served over 700,000 youth by providing opportunities, classes and programs to learn the concepts of free enterprise, global economics and entrepreneurship. The Bank’s services, including savings accounts, checking accounts, loans, certificates of deposit (CD), and credit, debit and ATM cards, help young people to establish an understanding of economics in action and personal financial responsibility.
